Public Health Informatics and Technology (PHIT4DC) Programs

Building the Future of Public Health, One Trainee at a Time

The Public Health Informatics & Technology for DC (PHIT4DC) initiative is more than a training program—it’s a movement to transform the healthcare workforce across the District and beyond. Originally launched through a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology and Partnerships (ASTP)—formerly the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC)—PHIT4DC was created to expand access to careers in health IT and respond to the growing need for skilled professionals in public health and technology.

Through the combined leadership of Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia, PHIT4DC offers a variety of free, skills-based training programs in areas such as health informatics, clinical informatics, data science, revenue cycle management, and telehealth. These programs are designed to provide hands-on learning and prepare participants for meaningful careers in today’s health technology landscape.

Our trainings welcome a broad range of learners—whether you're a student exploring career options, a professional seeking a change, or someone looking to re-enter the workforce. What brings our participants together is a shared drive to make a lasting impact through the use of data, technology, and innovation in healthcare.

While the grant funding concludes in September 2025, the PHIT4DC programs will continue beyond that date through the sustained efforts and institutional commitment of Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia. Both institutions remain dedicated to supporting the development of a strong, adaptable health IT workforce.

We invite you to explore our offerings, find a training program that aligns with your goals, and take the next step toward a rewarding career in public health and technology.

The future of the healthcare workforce is being shaped now—and there’s a place in it for you.
